Conceived by A. E. Waite, cards designed by Pamela Colman Smith. The drawings in The Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack are timeless. It's very easy to forget that they are nearly a hundred years old. The Rider-Waite Tarot is a classic Tarot deck, perhaps the most well-known in the Western world.

A.E. Waite was a celebrated writer on occult topics and a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. His 78-card Tarot Deck is probably the most widely used in the world. The rich, figurative designs that are the hallmark of this set will help everyone to understand and enjoy the unique language of tarot.

About The Original Rider Waite Tarot
The Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack presents a faithful facsimile of the tarot deck painted by Pamela Colman Smith and published by Rider and Co. in 1910. This edition, distinguished by its subtle, muted color tones, is an indispensable addition to any tarot collection. The bright, primary colors seen in the familiar 1909 version of Rider-Waite? Tarot deck published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc. have been returned to their original palette exemplified in the Arts and Crafts style of the early 20th century. For example, the pale blue backgrounds seen in The Star and the Wheel of Fortune cards are presented with a greenish cast. Lemon yellow has become deep gold and vivid reds a more muted crimson.? Everything grey on the 1909 version is rich beige here.

Tarot aficionados will be pleased to see that the card backs have been restored to their original design of Tudor roses and lilies in pale blue.

The Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack includes a Celtic Cross card-spread guide and an updated version of The Key to the Tarot, written by Arthur Edward Waite. This new edition includes a thoughtful foreword by Liz Greene, who not only places tarot in a historical context, but also situates it in a broader context. She describes tarot as 'a series of pictorial portrayals of the archetypal human life-journey.'
