In Lewis and Clark: The Expedition, a unique resource management racing game, players race up the Missouri River and over the Rockies to be the first to reach Fort Clatsop on the Pacific Coast. Win the race to the West and make history!

On November 30, 1803, the United States purchased Louisiana from Napoleon. U.S. President Thomas Jefferson decided to send two explorers ? Meriwether Lewis and William Clark ? to discover this huge terra incognita.

Lewis & Clark: The Expedition is a board game in which the players manage an expedition intended to cross the North American continent. Their goal is to be the first to reach the Fort Clatsop on the Pacific Coast. Each player has her own Corps of Discovery (the name given to Lewis & Clark's expeditionary group) that will be enhanced with Native Americans, trappers and other characters encountered during their journey. To be successful, you'll need to cleverly manage both your party characters and resources found along the way. Beware, sometimes frugality is better than abundance. This will become particularly clear, the first time you set up camp.

Lewis & Clark: The Expedition features dual-use cards. To be activated, one card must be combined with another, which becomes unavailable for awhile. Thus, players are faced with a constant dilemma: play a card or sacrifice it. Indian meeples can also be used to activate cards, but like extra resources can create delays when you set up camp.?

During the game, you'll acquire Encountered Character cards that enlarge your hand, ?building a crew that gives you more play options. You'll want to optimize this, however, as with a larger hand of cards you'll recycle your cards more slowly. This new handbuilding mechanism fits strongly with the historical background.
Since the aim of the game is to be the first to reach the Pacific coast, the timing and the opportunistic use of the other players' positions are crucial.
